Beehive Federal Credit Union is seeking a full-time Consumer Loan Underwriter to work at our main office in Rexburg. This position works 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with Saturday hours as needed. The expected pay is $_____ per hour, DOE.

Job Description

To increase the Credit Union's portfolio of loans and other financial services initiated through relationships with auto dealers and other retail businesses capable of extending Credit Union services to members and potential members. Underwrite loan applications within credit union guidelines and evaluate loans to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss. Recognize, structure, present and approve additional loan opportunities to maximize member benefits. Serve as a resource to employees on underwriting questions.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain ethical dealership relationships. Implement and assist in leading a safe and sound indirect lending portfolio. Act as a liaison between the Credit Union and dealerships in resolving problems that arise.
    • Maintain and report on dealer/retail network activity monthly. Provides explanation for exceptions to plan.
    • Identifies new market areas and product types that can be profitably introduced to dealer/retail network. Develops plans to implement identified actions.
    • Train finance personnel at dealerships and within the Credit Union to ensure everyone is knowledgeable about program requirements and procedures.
    • Will make onsite dealership visits on an as needed basis.
  • Interview or reviews member loan applicants to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition. Analyze the current financial position of members to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Makes decisions to approve, disapprove, or forward the loan request to higher levels of authority.
  • Work with consumer lending team in applying exceptional analytical and loan decisioning skills on loans that are above individual lender limits. Offer viable and creative loan alternatives while staying within credit union risk tolerance.
  • Will actively engage in needs-based selling.

Job Requirements

Two to five years of similar or related experience required.

A high school education or GED required.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
